BIMP-EAGA Maritime Transport and Trade Connectivity Study
This report profiles 19 ports across BIMP-EAGA to help businesses assess opportunities in the subregion. The study aims to contribute to lowering barriers in the movement of goods in and out of BIMP-EAGA.
The report provides an overview of conditions and practices in the ports, trade and traffic trends, as well as port performance. It also identifies areas for improvement to enable the ports to meet future demands more effectively.
The following were included in the study: the port of Muara in Brunei Darussalam; the ports of Balikpapan, Bitung, Nunukan, Pontianak, Tarakan in Indonesia; the ports of Kuching, Kudat, Labuan, Miri, Sandakan, and Tawau in Malaysia; and the ports of Bongao, Brooke’s Point, Dapitan, Glan, Pagadian, General Santos, and Zamboanga in the Philippines.
The ports are of different sizes, with some having the capacity to cater to international trade, while others only deal with national trade.
The study’s results were used to support the preparation of the BIMP-EAGA Port Booklet.
