The Sarawak Tourism Board has launched a campaign offering travel vouchers worth 900,000 ringgit ($201,831) as part of plans to entice 3 million tourists to the Malaysian state this year.
The travel vouchers are available until 16 July under the Global Sia Sitok Vacations campaign, with 51 participating merchants offering 147 packages.
“With Malaysia on the path of recovery since the pandemic, we are confident that this campaign will attract more visitors during the period, contributing to our effort to target 3 million visitors to Sarawak for 2023,” Sarawak Tourism Board CEO Sharzede Datu Haji Salleh Askor said in a press release. "We are thrilled to launch the Global Sia Sitok Vacations and welcome the world through our popular homegrown travel campaign to highlight the best of what this region has to offer for international visitors."
To avail of the RM100 e-Voucher, travelers need to download the EnjoySarawak App on Android and IOS platforms. The app offers a comprehensive guide to Sarawak's attractions, accommodations, restaurants, tour operators, healthcare, and spa and wellness operators, making it easier to plan trips.
Here and there
The Sarawak Tourism Board organized the Sia Sitok campaign in collaboration with Malaysian Association of Hotels. It is an expansion of the homegrown “Sia Sitok Sarawak” intra- and inter-state travel campaign introduced in 2020. Sia sitok means “here and there.”
The tourism board hopes to reach 9,000 visitors from outside Sarawak under the campaign.
The campaign is an opportunity for participating tourism businesses in Sarawak to entice tourists and increase growth in both medium and long-haul markets.
Visitors can use the vouchers to enjoy Sarawak’s attractions, including the 26th edition of the Rainforest World Music Festival happening at Sarawak Cultural Village on 23–25 June.
