A digital tool from Indonesia won the #DigitalAgainstCOVID-19 hackathon, which crowdsourced solutions that protect public health during the pandemic.
The MyHealthDiary is an app that uses artificial intelligence to help monitor a coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patient’s condition by keeping a daily record of his or her vital signs and to provide health reminders. Creators of the app, who include doctors, proposed using it as a national health passport or digital health certificate. They plan to pilot this “safe travels” feature in Indonesia in April.
The hackathon was launched by the Asian Development Bank and the Asian Institute of Management last year to help countries in Asia and the Pacific deal with the medium- and long-term effects of the pandemic. Aside from health and well-being, it also crowdsourced solutions for education, economic development, and better governance. Winners receive a grant of $10,000.
One of the three finalists in this online challenge is also from Indonesia, which proposed a keyless check-in system for hotels. The second finalist is from France, which presented a bioenzymatic fuel-cell system. The third finalist is a team from from Hong Kong, China, Philippines, Singapore, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, which proposed a monitoring system that supports health and safety procedures during the pandemic.
